Deadline reports ABC has tapped Atwell for the lead in Conviction, noting it doesn't look likely Agent Carter will return for a third season.
It is noted that if (and it sounds like a big if) Agent Carter does get picked up for a third season, ABC sources indicate there is a scenario in which Atwell could possibly do both shows (possibly as limited runs).
It's further noted that the casting of Hayley Atwell in a new ABC series means more than likely Agent Carter is not getting renewed, but that the network doesn't want to lose the actress as "they want to keep its star on its roster of leading ladies."
While Agent Carter has been said to be only averaging around 2.9 million viewers, it has been said to have good DVR viewings.
Conviction is described as: The story of Carter Morrison (Atwell), the brilliant but ne’er-do-well daughter of a former President, who is blackmailed into taking a job as the head of Los Angeles’ newly created Conviction Integrity Unit. She, along with her team of lawyers, investigators and forensic experts, work together to examine cases where there’s credible suspicion that the wrong person may have been convicted of a crime.
